A Nigerian professor at the English Department of the University of Ghana, Augustine Nwabara has stated that about twenty (20%) percent of Ghanaian degrees at the tertiary level are inferior.
Addressing a group of Nigerians, Professor Nwabara among other distasteful things, said he could substantiate and say unequivocally that most degrees awarded students by tertiary institutions in Ghana are comparatively inferior to those awarded in Nigeria.
” …and I can tell you, it’s also a problem back home. I wont pay 10% of that sum for my child to get a degree in a Ghanaian university. I am in the system and i know, the quality of education we receive here is 80% inferior to what is in Nigeria. I have said it, and place me on authority, cite me everywhere, no Ghanaian degree is 20% up to the quality of a Nigerian degree. All our federal universities are better than any of the Universities in Ghana”, he conceitedly said.
“They are using our manpower. I can tell you on authority that the Nigerian student community in Ghana takes care of about 65% of Legon’s projects. Nigerian students in Legon pay a minimum of $10,000 on the average per student times the number of students”, he added.
” All the private universities everywhere, we have this advantage that we supply to them, but what do we get in return, only insults”, he opined.
