The road network in our villages, towns and cities are bumpy hence the cause of most of the terrific accidents we see on such roads.
Over the years, road accidents have killed several citizens; with little or no efforts been put in place to prevent this societal menace. The phenomenon is no different at Oyibi, a fast growing village in the Kpone Katamanso Municipality in the Greater Accra Region.
Drivers in this community always go through hell maneuvering the roads in order to save their vehicles from being stack in pot-holes or in the middle of the road most especially when it rains.
Five minute drive away from the Oyibi township is a suburb known as Benapat, which is severely affected when the rains come down.
Pedestrians and drivers always have to stay home whenever it rains. The road connects to Ashaiman and its environs to Oyibi.
When contacted, the assembly man for the area Hon. Roland Odai Affotey, says the road has been given for contract and work will commence soon.
“I have forwarded my complains to the Municipal Chief Executive but he is currently out of the country and made a promised to release funds on his return, he added”.
It is almost a year now, and nothing has been done to the road, villagers and drivers blame tipper-truck drivers for the current state of the roads.
These roads lead to Appolonia, Kubekrom, Kantamanso, and Zenu which serves as major sand-winning hub within the district.
The road also lacks certain basic infrastructures such as traffic lights, a round-about and zebra crossings, which usually leads to road accidents in the area.
Inhabitants have being wailing for the lack of maintenance on the roads in the community and the country as a whole.
Both the government and and the people have a responsibility to maintaining the roads, streets, etc.
A call is therefore made on government and its agencies and other private individuals, to support the construction of the road.
Among some challenges are lack drainage systems and bad vehicles on our road.
“Should people suffer in this country when those in charge of a particular office or a government appointee to a department travels?”
