- Liverpool and Chelsea hoping to win their second European trophy this year
- Reds return to Istanbul where they won the Champions League in 2005
- Frank Lampard’s side hoping to bounce back from Manchester United defeat
- The UEFA Super Cup kicks off from 8pm BST at Vodafone Park
Liverpool and Chelsea have already won major European silverware this year and now they will have a chance to add another continental pot to their trophy cabinet in the Super Cup.
As European champions, the Reds return to Istanbul looking for another glorious evening having previously won the Champions League in the city in 2005.
Frank Lampard’s side however travel as holders of the Europa League and will be hoping to use the game to bounce back from their 4-0 defeat at Manchester United in their Premier League opener on Sunday. Kick-off from Vodafone Park is at 8pm BST.
Unless you go the opposite direction of course and it appears one Juventus fan has taken a wrong turn coming out of Turin and ended up in Istanbul.
Either that or he was very, very confident Juventus would win the Champions League after drawing Ajax in the quarter-finals last term.
Still, he sure looks like he wants to make the most of it posing with Liverpool/Salah fans outsid…. wait, is that a Stuttgart supporter there as well?
Fans gather around the Vodafone Park ahead of the UEFA Super Cup match
Liverpool have supporters from Egypt, Chelsea from Iraq and they are all gathered outside the Vodafone Park stadium in Istanbul for this Super Cup clash.
There is an image going around showing a big screen with Super League branding showing the Chelsea line-up as follows:
Kepa; Alonso, Christensen, Zouma, Azpilicueta; Kante, Jorginho; Mount, Kovacic, Pulisic; Giroud.
Seems strange for a line-up to leak onto a big screen, so… ‘seem legit?’
Well if it is, you won’t find a bigger one. It’s the Champions League holders against the Europa League winners and for the first time ever it’s going to be an all-English affair.
And when was Liverpool vs Chelsea ever going to pass quietly? Lots of beef in between these teams in the modern era as I welcome you to live coverage of the action due to kick off at 8pm BST.
