The BBC has announced a new trainee scheme for African journalists with disabilities.
The scheme, Known as Aim High and starting in April 2020, will offer three-month placements to three aspiring journalists with disabilities.
Speaking at the BBC’s Nairobi bureau, Director-General Tony Hall said, those who earned the places will work at the new Kenya office with teams working in English and African languages, on television and in digital production.
“We know it’s hard for people with disabilities to get opportunities in journalism,” he said.
“Aim High will give aspiring journalists with disabilities hands on experience, bespoke training and mentoring, and I urge people to apply.”
Anyone with a disability – visible or not – will be eligible. Details of how to apply will be announced soon.
