Judi Dench has revealed she thinks Idris Elba ‘could get to MI6’ amid rumours he could become the next James Bond.
The actress, 85, was asked if her Cats co-star could become the seventh 007 agent during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, set to air on Friday.
She said: ‘I knew he was up for it and in Cats I had the line to him “You’ll never get to Heaviside Layer” but, during rehearsals I said, “you’ll never get to MI6”.

‘But I think he might.’
And on whether she took a shine to Idris, 47, while they worked together on the $95million blockbuster, she said: ‘Well, of course! Why ever not?’
Judi plays Old Deuteronomy in Cats, traditionally a wise and beloved elderly male cat.
She added: ‘It came as a surprise, but it’s still a clapped-out cat.
Judi revealed her acting in the role was inspired by a former beloved pet, a ‘huge orange bruiser’ called Carpet.

‘I thought I knew the kind of cat I was, but when I saw the film, I realised I had turned into Carpet, a cat I once had that was a huge orange bruiser,’ she said.
Judy was cast as Grizabella for the on-stage musical 38 years ago, but snapped her Achilles’ tendon and then fell off the stage – meaning she never got to actually play the role.
Grizabella the Glamour Cat is a protagonist in the show. She is described as lonely, decrepit and ostracised.

Judy reminisced: ‘It was coming up to the first night and I was rehearsing with Wayne Sleep and some cockroaches and I snapped my Achilles’ tendon.
‘They said it didn’t matter that my character was hobbling around, but then we moved to the New London Theatre and I fell off the stage.
‘I got up, got a taxi and went home.’

Jennifer was ‘drained from the tears’ by the time she finished filming her key scenes, singing live during each take.
Talking about life before her big break on American Idol in 2004, she said: ‘I worked at Burger King and as soon as I was in front of the microphone in the drive through, I would sing – the greeting and the order.

Ever since the first trailer dropped in July, the upcoming movie has caused a sensation, with viewers divided over the human cat hybrids.
But that isn’t stopping the cast enthusiastically promoting the film, which will be released in time to target the peak Christmas movie-going crowd.
The Graham Norton Show will be on BBC One on Friday at 10.40pm.
