Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have admitted their regret that their on-field chemistry with Lionel Messi has only started to bloom recently.
On Saturday, Mbappe and Neymar netted a hat-trick each as PSG thrashed Clermont Foot 6-1 in Ligue 1. Although he failed to score, Messi was instrumental in the victory, laying on three assists for his teammates.
Speaking to Canal Plus France after the game, Mbappe said, “The connection on the field with Messi and Neymar, it’s a shame it’s only happening now.
“But we feel that we’re three quality players, and we trying to help the team as much as possible and that’s what happened today.
“That’s life, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, you have to keep looking forward. It’s in the past now. We had some pain, which is still present but you need to keep positive, we have to show that we’re a big club and a big team and that we’re here to win trophies.”
Mbappe’s attacking partner Neymar also admitted regret at the famous trio’s partnership only starting to flourish at the end of the season.
Neymar said, “First of all I’m very happy to have won tonight. I’m also happy to have scored three goals. We’re getting better and better.
“All three of us are at 100% but only at the end of the season. It’s a shame for us but we’re going to go and get what’s left for us in the league.”
Messi, Neymar and Mbappe have scored a combined total of 33 goals and provided 33 assists in the 31 games they have featured for PSG in Ligue 1 this season.
The Parisians are 12 points ahead of second placed Marseille in Ligue 1 with seven games to go in the 2021-22 season.
