Stephen Sarfo, a Ghanaian professional footballer, says players who ply their trade in the Ghana league must be paid a monthly salary of not less than Ghc5,000.
Sarfo, who played as a striker for Berekum Chelsea, believes that the Ghana league will always lose its talents and strength, because there is no money and the structure is also weak.
“I will urge government to get involved so that at least , if a player in the league earns around Ghc5,000. There is no way a player will leave if the structures and clubs are able to give better conditions of service”
Sarfo, who currently plies his trade for Iraqi top-flight Al Hudoo in an interview with Kessben FM called on the government to get involve in the payment of salaries of players in order to curb player exodus.
“This is the main reason our players do not mature before traveling out , where they mostly do not live to their aspirations”
“The club owners who run their teams from their pockets, always fall for such offers from abroad because they are always constrained financially thus they see such opportunities to cover some of their expenses which they incur over the period. So government should take a whole look at supporting the clubs as well as the players”
Sarfo, stated that, the Iraqi league is far ahead in terms of facilities and structure and the salary is also better than what pertains in Ghana.
““They have fine pitches with excellent facilities and as a player, you will have to think fast on the ball. I will rate the Iraqi league ahead of the Ghana premier league.”
Stephen Sarfo was a member of the Black Stars B team and also was once the goal king in the Ghana Premier League.
