The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as frivolous claims it is discriminating against persons with Akan names from being rolled onto their national register.
The party that is accused of discrimination and tribal politics against Asantes in its just-ended membership drive indicated the claims are the creation of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP)
Constituency Chairman for Nhyiaeso, Ernest Afayam responding to the allegations noted that there is no iota of truth in the press conference delivered by the NPP that discrimination is ongoing.
Speaking on Kumasi-based Ultimate FM; Mr. Afayam said the NPP is trying to push propaganda of tribal politics in the NDC just to sway the public outcry of hardship and mismanagement that has dominated the media space.
‘The NPP wants to divert attention, with the NDC tribal politics claim in Ashanti. The party wants to hide their incompetence and hardship in the system with biased ethnocentric propaganda again the NDC.’’
‘If you get up and are buying cement at almost 80 cedis, buying diesel at 63 cedis, we are buying petrol at 63 cedis, all these things on the head of the government, you see that the government has no breathing space, so as politicians they want to find a way of calming down tensions and also to divert attention, so basically that is what they did’’ he said.
‘‘The press engagement was just to outdoor the new communication department of the Npp after it was constituted and nothing serious. The press conference was to show that, Dennis Kwakwa has arrived’’
If you watch the video, you will see Kwasi Kyei, Essel Mills and all the people there’’ he revealed.
Mr. Afayam noted that the NDC came into the NPP press conference only when they realized their main target for the media engagement was trivial.
‘’If you look at the document, the press conference was themed, two thousand dollars, two thousand cedis press conference, they went there with the intention of holding a press conference against nana Kwadwo Jantuah, they realized that it was trivial, that alone won’t wash, they needed something to add to that, hence NDC came in’’
‘’I can tell you emphatically that, during the NDC registration for members, that just ended last year, people from the NPP with Akan names trooped in droves to acquire the party cards and when they came nobody coerced them, to come and do the registration’’
They said that the government of the NPP of which they belong to has disappointed them to the extent that some of them their business have collapsed, their capital has been depleted, so they came in to register ‘’
‘’ Come and see our register after the registration, there are Akan names in there, no one was prevented, we have the register, nobody was prevented ‘’
‘’ It is never true that people were prevented, it is not correct, these are baseless allegations, that must not be entertained in any quarters ‘’
‘‘If Kwabena Bobbie wrote something on his Facebook wall, it’s not true, he is not on the ground, the point is that the NPP is losing touch with its base in the region and it is panicking’’
they have made their party unattractive to them and they think that it is the NDC that can profess them hope that they need in this country, so you see they want to find a way of drawing some attention to them, so the people will say that ooo this what the NDC is doing’’
The Nhyiaeso chairman, however, noted that, if the party will prevent people from voting, it will be President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffu Addo, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
No person was denied, it is only president Akufo-Addo, ken Ofori Atta and Vice President Bawumia that we have made it clear we won’t register them if they come to register for NDC, we accept everybody but these three no way’’
‘’they have messed up the country and if they associate themselves with us, they will look at us as failures. So you understand, we are very mindful of what we are doing. So this is a panic reaction press conference’’
