Member of Parliament(MP) for Afigya Kwabre North Collins Adomako-Mensah has confirmed that after some 80 of his colleagues demanded the removal of the Finance Minister and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry, some statutory payments which had delayed have been released.
It could be remembered that some Members of Parliament at a Press Conference demanded the removal of the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, and Minister of State at the Finance Ministry Charles Adu-Boahene.
They were emphatic about their demands asking the government to remove the Ministers or risk not having them take part in government business in Parliament.
The President after meeting with the MPs appealed on behalf of the Ministers and asked that the Finance Minister sees through the IMF deal and the 2023 Budget.
The Majority MPs accepted the President’s appeal.
Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV, Collins Adomako-Mensah who is MP for Afigya Kwabre North in the Ashanti Region confirmed that some payments delayed since the beginning of the year have been paid in the past week.
He argued that there is no correlation between the monies paid and the agitations to get the Finance Minister away from the government.
To him, they were statutory payments that were delayed since January 2022 and the government had made some money so they decided to pay up.
“Uncle Kwesi these are statutory payments, there were delays and they’ve been paid. We thank God they’ve been paid. They’ve been paid because they have to be paid. There was a delay and they’ve been paid. I’m not too sure it was because of the demands. Delays in payments of the common fund is nothing new. Now the first and second quarters have been paid and now the third quarter is what we are waiting for.
