The High Commission of Canada in Ghana has announced the 2025 call for proposals under the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), inviting local NGOs, community groups, academic institutions, and other eligible organizations to apply for funding. This initiative aims to support small-scale, high-impact projects that promote gender equality and inclusive governance in Ghana.
Funding Overview
The CFLI provides financial assistance ranging from CAD $30,000 to $45,000 per project. All funded projects must be completed by February 28, 2026. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 8, 2025, at 23:59 GMT. Applications must be submitted electronically to [email protected].
Thematic Priorities
For the 2025 cycle, the CFLI focuses on the thematic priority of inclusive governance, with specific attention to:
- Increasing the meaningful participation of women, youth, and other marginalized or vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, in political and governance processes.
- Efforts by civil society, institutions, and local media/journalists to raise awareness about the nexus between illegal mining (galamsey), environmental degradation, and radicalization, and garner stakeholder support to address these issues.
Gender-Based Analysis Requirement
In alignment with Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy, all project proposals must include a Gender-Based Analysis (GBA). This analysis should:
- Consider how women, girls, men, and boys are affected differently by the problem the project aims to address, ensuring the project does not cause harm.
- Include consultations with women and/or girls in the development of the project proposal.
- Ensure that the views of these women and/or girls inform the project’s design.
Inadequate completion of a GBA may affect the consideration of the proposal.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants include:
- Local non-governmental, community, and not-for-profit organizations.
- Local academic institutions working on local projects.
- International non-governmental organizations working on local development activities.
- Intergovernmental, multilateral, and regional institutions, organizations, and agencies working on local development activities.
- Municipal, regional, or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country working on local projects.
- Canadian non-governmental and not-for-profit organizations working on local development activities.
Priority will be given to local civil society organizations and institutions working at the local level.
Application Process
Interested organizations must complete the designated application form and include the required budget document. Proposals should be completed in English or French and must explicitly answer all questions in the CFLI project application form, including the required gender-based analysis. The proposed project budget should summarize the proposed activities and associated costs.
To obtain an application form, applicants can download the CFLI Project Application for Funding Form (PDF 249.15 KB) from the official website or request the form in Microsoft Word format by contacting the CFLI coordinator at [email protected].
For more information on the types of activities and costs that are eligible for CFLI funding, applicants should refer to the list of CFLI approved activities and costs available on the official website.
Due to the large number of applicants, only successful candidates will be contacted.
