The Government of Ghana has appointed Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as the new Board Chairman of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).
The appointment, which was officially announced on Tuesday, is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the leadership and strategic direction of one of Ghana’s most vital state-owned enterprises. Mr. Nketiah brings a wealth of experience in governance, public administration, and strategic planning to his new role.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Transport, the Minister expressed confidence in Mr. Nketiah’s ability to provide the board with effective oversight and visionary leadership. “His track record in public service and deep understanding of national development goals make him well-suited to guide GPHA into a new era of modernization and efficiency,” the statement read.
Mr. Nketiah, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” has previously served as Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture. His appointment is seen by political analysts as both a recognition of his long-standing service and a move to leverage experienced hands to oversee strategic national assets.
The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority plays a key role in Ghana’s international trade, operating the Tema and Takoradi ports. Stakeholders are hopeful that under Mr. Nketiah’s chairmanship, the authority will improve port efficiency, expand infrastructure, and enhance regional competitiveness.
Mr. Nketiah is expected to work closely with the GPHA management and other board members to implement key reforms and infrastructural projects.
