Popular NDC scribe Allotey Jocobs says government must adequately resource the Electoral Commission so the outfit does not fall prey to the influence of any political party.
Speaking on Peace FM, Allotey said if they are resourced well, they can do their work effectively.
“During district assembly elections, government surreptitiously sponsors people to stand on party lines. Hence, though not vivid; and the fact that the result is a barometer to determine which party wins general elections, one can notice some political party colors in posters of these candidates standing for the assembly elections”, he revealed.
The Electoral Commission have come under the spotlight in recent times, with much of the flak coming from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The commission is scheduled to hold the district assembly elections on November 26, 2019.
Scheduled activities for the elections including the registration of new voters are to begin on May 24th to June 2019.
According to commission, from 22nd to 26th September, there would be the transfer of votes.
On the 7th-8th October, the commission will receive nomination forms of Assembly members, as nomination for Assemblyman elections will be held on the 25th-30th August.
From the 9th -10th October, the Commission is to receive Unit committee nomination forms and from 21th -25th November, it would hold an open forum dialogue with candidates at district levels.
