A forex bureau operator, Alhaji Osman Jadad, has been killed at Dawhenya in Tema by two robbers on a motorbike, who absconded with an amount of Ghc 600,00.
Reports have it that Alhaji Jadad’s friend, who was shot by the robbers in the chest survived the attack but unfortunately, Jadad gave up the ghost, after both were rushed to the hospital.
Alhaji Osman Jadad, who is also known as Alhaji Sita is alleged to have borrowed from friends to make up the GHc 600,000.
The Prampram Ditsrict Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Issah Mohammed Contona, said Alhaji Sita had a call from a client who was in need of the cedi equivalent of $80,000. Sita then contacted some colleagues of his, who were able to raise the cedi equivalent for the deceased.
According to DSP Contona, the deceased who was to meet the said customer with the money at Dawhenya, declined calls from his friends to get police escort because the amount they were dealing with was huge. The friends were against the idea of not meeting the client in question, at Sita’s office but the latter was able to convince them that he was going to get police escort upon reaching of the Dawhenya Police Station. But to their astonishment, Sita drove pass the police station.
But shortly after passing by the police station, the two brigands accosted them on their motorbike, and shot Sita and his friend, and demanded the money from the other two friends who were sitting at the back of the car. Without any aggression, the two surrendered the money to the robbers, who rode off on their bike.
” Due to the robbers indiscriminate shootings, onlookers and others who were around could not muster courage to square up to the bandits”, DSP Contona said.
As a result, three persons who raised the money for Sita, were apprehended by the police but have been granted bail after questioning. The police has promised to carry out further investigations with the view to arresting the criminals.
The late Alhaji Osman Jadad has since been laid to rest at the Achimota Cemetery.
