Gabrielle Union‘s firing from America’s Got Talent sparked a major backlash among the show’s viewers and her fans, with most coming to Union’s defense after learning she was allegedly let go for speaking up about racism and sexism on set. The show’s host, Terry Crews, is the latest to address the controversial news, and the reaction to his response is not going over well on social media.
After noticing the outpouring of love and support she’s received since her firing was announced, Union took to Twitter to thank her fans, sharing that she is “humbled and thankful.”
Crews retweeted her words, adding, “You’re the best, Gabrielle! You will be missed!”
Twitter users felt his response to Union being let go was insensitive since, back in 2017, she publicly came to his defense when he spoke up about being sexually assaulted by a high-level male Hollywood executive.
Black women, in particular, have expressed their disappointment in the host for his nonchalant “farewell” to the woman who went out on a limb to have his back when many didn’t, especially given that he’s outwardly spoken out in support of folks like Gina Rodriguez.
