- The goal was scored in dubious circumstances as Divock Origi was fouled but VAR did not intervene
- Sadio Mane equalised for Liverpool but VAR intervened again to rule out the goal for a handball
- Liverpool struggled all afternoon to find a way through a resolute 3-5-2 formation deployed by United
- The Premier League leaders finally broke through in the 85th minute as Adam Lallana tapped home
A late Adam Lallana goal rescued a point for Liverpool in a tense afternoon at Old Trafford where VAR took centre stage once again as the Premier League leaders and Manchester United shared the spoils.
Towards the end of a tense first half Rashford broke the deadlock after he latched onto a fine cross into the box by Daniel James to give United the lead. The goal was reviewed by the Video Assistant Referee with Liverpool aggrieved by a foul on Divock Origi in the build up to the goal.
VAR deemed that no foul was made and Rashford’s goal stood. Sadio Mane thought he equalised late on in the first half but VAR disallowed the goal as the Senegalese had handled the ball when through on goal.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was visibly angry with the sequence of events and vented his fury with Jonathan Moss on an afternoon when Liverpool looked devoid of ideas. However, Adam Lallana provided the all important break through in the 85th minute when he tapped home an Andy Robertson cross.
