Pedestrians have continuously ignored the footbridges and crossed the road from unapproved spots, putting their lives at risk. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) personnel embarked on a special operation Wednesday, November 27, 2019, to arrest persons indiscriminately crossing the highway.
The Superintendent Paul Wesley Baah, Divisional Commander MTTD, Madina said jaywalking is an offense punishable by law and said his outfit will ensure that the right thing is done.
The persons arrested were processed for court and fine of Sixty Ghana Cedis (60.00GHS) or face six days imprisonment were slapped on them accordingly.
“It is not going to be one time. We will continue to do this exercise so far as there are still people who want to be recalcitrant and don’t want to use the provided footbridges,” SP Baah told the NSEMGH.COM reporter.
