Threats made against Meghan Markle have been “disgusting” and “very real”, according to a top police boss. The former Head of Counter Terrorism revealed that people have been prosecuted for their threats.
Neil Basu, who is today leaving the Metropolitan Police after 30 years, said anyone one receiving such messages would “feel under threat all of the time”.
Asked by Channel 4 News if there were many credible threats against the Duchess of Sussex during his service, he replied: “Absolutely, and if you’d seen the stuff that was written and you were receiving it… the kind of rhetoric that’s online, if you don’t know what I know, you would feel under threat all of the time.”
The Assistant Commissioner described these threats as “disgusting” and “very real”.
He also told the broadcaster a team was put together to investigate threats made to the Duchess during his time with the Met.
