A woman at Koforidua Ada Magazine in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern Region has lost her child and has no shelter following the weekend’s rainstorm.
A second child has been hospitalised after he sustained an injury on the leg.
The deceased child, 5, and his brother, 7, were together in the same apartment before the incident.
Whiles their mother was preparing meals in the kitchen, portions of their Chamber and Hall self-contained apartment collapsed during the rainstorm.
The Assemblyman for the Ada Magazine Electoral Area, Okyere Richard, confirmed the incident as he led the family to officially report to the police.
The body of the deceased is at the Eastern Regional Hospital Morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Weather patterns have changed over the past days in the Eastern Region capital with high volumes of rainfalls.
Some schools roofs have been ripped off, forcing management to merge classes.
A handful of residents have also lost their homes.
The situation has been overwhelming for the Eastern Region National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO).
The woman, popularly known as Maame Adjoa, is currently putting up with neighbours.
“Yesterday, they bussed people from all parts of the Ashanti Region and these people were given stipends and yesterday, you could count about 200 Land Cruisers in town in an attempt to influence the vote tomorrow.”
He further debunked rumours that the NDC is sponsoring one Kweku Duah who is a defected member of the NPP in an attempt to split the votes to the benefit of the NDC
“Kweku Duah is not an NDC member and the only NDC person in the race is Kwesi Amankwah, and he has been working in the constituency for years, and he is a known person we are hoping that he will win the seat for the party.”
