Social media space was on Friday night awash with the rumour regarding the living status of former President of Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou.
But clarification shortly emerged that the continental football czar remains alive but currently outside Cameroon, his home country.
As reported by Sports Village Square, Hayatou’s personal secretary,, Lilian Obenson who is also a cousin to a top journalist in Cameroon, confirmed that the erstwhile soccer chief is alive.
Issa Hayatou holds the record as the longest serving CAF President.
He was at the President of African football for 29 years, before losing to challenger Ahmad of Madagascar in 2017 in what was a major shakeup for the sport on the continent.
