Trudeau’s visit to Rideau Hall, the Governor General in Ottawa triggers 40-day campaign
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has triggered the official start of the federal election campaign.
The Liberal leader told reporters outside Rideau Hall in Ottawa this morning that he’s asked Gov. Gen. Julie Payette to dissolve Parliament, launching Canada’s 43rd general election. The vote is to be held on Oct. 21.
The most recent polls show the Conservatives and Liberals deadlocked, after the Tories had enjoyed a lead stretching back to February and the start of the SNC-Lavalin affair.
According to CBC’s Poll Tracker, the Liberals are at this moment projected to win the most seats — but whether any party can secure a majority after the 40 day campaign remains to be seen.
More to come.
